The most expensive place to stay on Phuket with its 40 luxury pavilions set in a coconut plantation above the beach. Amanpuri translates to place of peace, which this certainly is. Incredible service with many more employees than guests. The Aman Spa is one of the best in Thailand and offers everything from basic massages to holistic therapies, facials and scrubs. There are also salas for meditation and yoga.
There is a choice of dining spots plus 24-hour room service. The pavilions cost from $675 a night for one set in the gardens to $1,550 for an ocean view. There are also homes available. The largest, with five bedrooms, costs $7,350 a night. Imagine taking it that for three weeks. Those prices do not include service and taxes, which amount to almost 20%.
The tsunami caused minor damage to the beach equipment but flooding destroyed the gym. the resort was operating normally a few days after the tidal wave hit.
